Watercolour of Rosa Climbing Mrs Herbert Stevens and Rosa Climbing Lady Hillingdon by Graham Stuart Thomas. Thomas was a partner at Sunningdale Nurseries in the mid 1940's and Gardens Advisor to the National Trust from 1955. In the 1960's he was awarded the Veitch Memorial Medal and the Victoria Medal of Honour. Appointed OBE in 1975, G.S.Thomas is recognised as a horticulturalist, rosarian, writer and artist
Watercolour on paper depicting a Crown Imperial Lily from an album titled Flores a Petro Holsteyn ad vivum depicti by the artist Pieter Holsteyn. Pieter Holsteyn the younger was born in Haarlem around 1614. He trained under his father Pieter Holsteyn the elder, painting on paper, canvas, glass and vellum as well as producing engraved portraits. In 1662 he became a member of St Luke's Guild, a city guild for painters and other artists. This album contains 142 drawings and dates from c.1634
